Halloween and Fall Things

Keeping up with this blog is giving me a run for my money. If I didn't know I'd find it valuable down the road, I don't think I'd even try anymore. Here are quick highlights from October.

1) A trip to Tubb's Berry Farm because fall is not fall for me without a trip to the pumpkin patch. And not just any pumpkin patch, but a working farm's pumpkin patch. It just feels good.

I had to include this one because this pig cracked me up; he was eating with his head in that pumpkin the entire time we were there.

2) The day before Halloween we carved our pumpkins. I kept mine very simple this year so I could help Sprout with his. Mr. Mitchell went elaborate as he does every year.

3) Halloween. We were able to do a Halloween party in Boise the weekend before Halloween, and we went trick-or-treating around our neighborhood on Halloween night. Sprout had badly sprained his foot the week before, so we didn't go very far or very quickly, but he was still excited. Both kids did well using their manners, and I was proud of them for that. Sprout was worried that people might actually think he was the Big Bad Wolf instead of a little boy in a costume and felt the need to assure many people that he was just in costume. Little Lady was terrified to go to almost every single door, but once it was opened she'd trick-or-treat with the best of them.

Halloween Festivities 2015

Happy Late Halloween!

Sprout has been very excited about the changing seasons since reading a book all about it. He noticed the leaves falling and could not wait to get them all raked up so it could 'officially' be autumn time.

October is a favorite month around here, and one of my favorite things is going to the pumpkin patch. This year we were in a new town and had to discover a new place, but we ended up being happy with it.

He was excited about the corn cob cannon...

...and then he wasn't.

Sitting on his throne of  hay while we waited for the hayride.

For Halloween we went with a Peter Pan theme. I made my Wendy dress using a pattern for a Regency period dress, I made Sprout's Peter Pan costume using a few online tutorials, and I had to make-up the Tinkerbell costume as I went since I didn't want the Little Lady to freeze in an actual Tinkerbell costume or spend $40 on one from the Disney store. People seemed to get it when they saw her with our little Peter Pan even though she didn't look at all like Disney's Tinkerbell. I left Mr. Mitchell to his own devices with Captain Hook.

Sprout got the hang of trick-or-treating very quickly and loved it! He also enjoyed handing out candy to our trick-or-treaters once he figured out they weren't knocking on our door to give him more candy for his personal bucket. For some reason Little Lady was incredibly concerned the entire night (as you can see pictured below) and would only smile if somebody smiled at her first. We bought 250 pieces of candy, and giving only one out to each child we only had 20 pieces left at the end of the night between trunk-or-treat and our neighborhood kids. it was very fun.

Mr. Mitchell always does a fun jack-o-lantern and is quite good at it (especially considering he doesn't have any fancy pants tools to do it with).

October 2013

It's past time for October leftovers, and I kind of don't care, but Mr. Mitchell says I should catch up on everything that I meant to do so that I don't give myself the slacker speech later.

We started October with a surprise party for my niece who turned 16. She loves everything vintage, so, my sister put together an awesome vintage, sweet 16 party. Mr. Mitchell dressed as a greaser, I was a 40s casual girl, and Sprout was a beatnik because that was the best we could do. No pictures, unfortunately.

We did family pictures. One of Mr. Mitchell's coworkers took them and I edited them. This is my first time doing something like this, and I'm not entirely pleased with the way they turned out because I know they could look better; I just haven't learned how. If you have suggestions I am happy to hear them, but no criticisms.

Then there was Halloween, of course. We went to trunk-or-treat as pirates because we always seem to be ready with pirate costumes.

On Halloween we carved our pumpkins just in time for our trick-or-treaters. We had all of 7.

And then, of course, there's just the random stuff that is life.

He has turned into quite the climber.

He's already done with this phase.
Glad I captured it.

Bonding over electronics.
Sprout loves suction cup kisses from Daddy.
